Planning Your Project Checklist

  • Survey the area before starting any project.  You may have something special, such as rare plants and you don't want to destroy them.

  • Take time and care in planning and costing out your project.

  • Identify sources of funding.

  • Before starting any project the scheme has to be sanctioned by the School and Student Access Unit.  You will need to fill in a Self Help & Benefaction Scheme Form available from timodonovan@monmouthshire.gov.uk

  • Support from Head Teacher (Vital!)

  • Support from your curriculum coordinator.

  • Ensure project is included in school development plan (including projects' cost implications of implementation and maintenance).

  • Integrate project into your school's National Curriculum Planning.

  • Involvement of parents, teachers, children and other member of the community in all stages if possible.  Providing an opportunity for discussion and planning, for example by arranging a Schools Grounds Day / Assembly where ideas and projects can be raised and discussed also helped to get some projects started.

  • Provide INSET training so that all members of staff feel confident about using your resource.

  • Ensure support and active involvement of your Schools Council.

  • Ensure the project fits in with your schools Health and Safety Policy.
